Consultations with Caverly

consultation

Private consultations with Caverly are available for those who would like to bring more consciousness to their lives and deepen their spiritual practice. Caverly believes that “what we are unconscious to, silently governs us.”

In these sessions, Caverly assists us in seeing ourselves in a broader context in order to understand ourselves more deeply. Through Awareness Practice tools, specific breath, and chakra meditations, as well as weekly Awareness Practice assignments, she helps us to find clarity about our individual patterns of suffering, thus leading to the ability to let them go. Sessions are tailored to each student’s individual needs and are open to all.

The appointments are ½ hour if in conjunction with a scheduled period of meditation at the House, and occur weekly. Otherwise appointments are one hour. It is an option to sign up for a single session, though working on a consecutive basis allows the student to receive on-going feedback about the assignments and practices offered. In most cases, four sessions are scheduled in advance.

$30- $50 suggested donation for half hour consultations.

One House of Peace supports an alternative economy and trade/barter is an option. No one will be turned away due to lack of funds.

It is not necessary that one live in Sacramento in order to participate in the consultation program. Currently Caverly is working with students in person, and via phone with those located outside the Sacramento region.

Words from a far-flung student:

"Caverly, our phone conversation gave me the chance to take my situation and hand it over to you for a moment. Then, with your guidance, I was able to use that as an opportunity to see what I was facing from new angles, fresh perspective. Bringing awareness to what was going on and addressing it with your help has put me on a path, when I was too stuck to see a path before. Thank you!" ~Courtney, Business Owner, Burmingham, AL

Words from some in-person students:

"Caverly instructs in a way that makes spiritual practice, including meditation, accessible. With respect to individual consultations, she is clear, dispassionate, and nonjudgmental in reflecting back to you what is being discussed, i.e., what you bring with you. In my experience, it is a rare opportunity to question all our assumptions, including the assumption of who we are, in a manner that is helpful. In my experience, in that process lies inner freedom and natural action." ~Lan, Attorney

"I have been seeking change or shift in the way I move through the world for some time. I finally arrived at a place where I knew if it didn't begin soon, it would never happen. My private sessions with Caverly provide a quiet time for personal exploration and a chance to dial into my inner chatter and set it free! I love that I can still hear all that is me and let it go to clear space for new energy. A work in progress, but the journey has begun!" ~Carol G., former CEO, wife, mother, daughter of aging parents and volunteer, now in semi-retirement waiting for the next phase of her life to reveal itself.

"When I first started practicing meditation after taking one of Caverly's workshops at my gym, I found all these feelings and new observations bubbling up and I had no one to talk to it. I began seeing Caverly for consultations. We met once a week and each consultation was combined with a meditation session. Having someone experienced in meditation to discuss what changes were occurring was invaluable. I could be open and honest and not worry about being judged. It was an immense relief to discover that what was going on with me was all a normal part of a meditation practice. The sessions helped me deepen my commitment to meditation, and I still hear Caverly's voice on the importance of practice if I try to talk myself out of meditating on a given day." ~Kim, Realtor

I started consultations with Caverly after attending my first few meditation classes. While I loved the class format and discussions, I had lots of questions that I wanted to ask without monopolizing the group time. Also, I wanted to start a meditation practice that wasn't reliant on a specific class time. The consultation time with Caverly was the answer to all these needs. All the revelations and ideas I have during practice are able to be talked about each week in depth. Caverly helps me see more clearly and more quickly how much my own mind creates obstacles -- obstacles that aren't there when I am practicing. Having the consultation time is invaluable for deepening my practice. ~Laurel, Analyst

Awareness Practice Discussions

(Thursday evening and Sunday morning)

Awareness Practice classes are offered twice weekly. Caverly facilitates these group discussions that follow half-hour periods of sitting meditation. The discussions are interactive and personal, though there is no requirement to speak. In the stillness that the House offers we bring awareness to the process of suffering and learn ways to move beyond. Suggested minimum donation for these events: $12.

Words from a regular participant:

"Caverly instructs in a down to earth, compassionate (and often humorous) way that really allows us to shed light on the habit patterns of our mind...or sometimes just what's going on for you that day. The discussions are the key -- they allow you to ask the questions that arise as you meditate or get help with the difficulties that you encounter when you try. I've had so many profound insights simply by airing those observations and getting feedback from a highly trained awareness practitioner. This class literally has been the reason my practice has advanced to a whole new level. She's an expert at what she does!" ~ Sara

Tuesday Evening Practice Periods

These evenings consist of sitting meditation, walking meditation, and chanting together. The format varies from week to week and what occurs is based on the needs of those in the room at that moment. Often the evenings begin with a specific guided chakra meditation based on the work that Caverly is currently doing with The Center for Self-Teaching. Suggested minimum donation: $10.

Monthly Awareness Practice Workshops

Caverly offers workshops on a variety of topics that assist in deepening spiritual practice. Workshops are designed to meet the needs that are currently raised by those at the House, so strictly defined topics are often not announced far in advance to allow for this flexibility. However, workshops will tend to center around the themes of how we create suffering in our lives and how to move beyond it. All workshops, unless otherwise noted, are suited to those who are new to Awareness Practice, as well as to those who have more experience. Workshops likely include: Awareness Practice exercises (in a journaling fashion,) chakra meditations, and facilitated group discussion. Workshops always include the teachings of the spiritual practice offered through One House of Peace.

Peace Through Service:

peace

One House of Peace is committed to service. Along with providing the service of offering a spiritual practice to the community, we are committed to creating and participating in local community service projects.

Currently we are creating a garden for the students at PS7, an elementary school in a low-income area. Many of these students have little to no access to fresh vegetables.

See more photos of this project here: Peace Photos.

Conscious Cinema Evenings

These evenings are an opportunity to view -- via our LCD projector – and discuss films dedicated to conscious living. Topics in the past have dealt with environmental sustainability, peaceful living, social-justice issues, and spiritual practice. Following each film there is a facilitated group discussion with Caverly.

Suggested minimum donation: $12.

An Environment of Stillness

One House of Peace is a unique environment. It provides quiet and stillness in support of spiritual practice. Conversations – whether in an Awareness Practice Workshop, a yoga class, or in the time before and after meditation – are kept at a whisper. We also restrain from excessive socializing with each other while in the quiet space of the house. This allows a person to enter the sanctuary and receive the gift of turning the attention inward. Here, no one will approach you and ask you what you do for a living, if you are single, etc. One is relieved from the social pressures that exist in the ‘outside world’ and can focus entirely and completely on Awareness Practice.
